Pressure Washer Maintenance 101

Pressure washers tackle challenging cleaning tasks like mud, mold, and grime and undergo significant wear and tear. It’s essential to perform proper maintenance to ensure longevity and reliable performance. By following a few maintenance steps before and after each use, you can extend the life of your unit and enjoy many more seasons of efficient cleaning.

Before Using

Check the o-rings on the ends of your high-pressure hose for any signs of wear and tear. Damaged o rings can lead to leaks and potential injuries during use. If you spot any damage, replace them before operating the pressure washer.

Ensure that the nozzle at the end of your wand is securely locked in place.

Be cautious not to plug the nozzle with debris, dirt, or other objects.

If you have a gas pressure washer, ensure it contains fresh gas and oil before starting it. Avoid using gas that has been sitting in the tank since last season. For old gas, add a stabilizer and top it off with fresh gasoline.

Check the spark plug for corrosion. A corroded spark plug can cause difficulties in starting and inefficient operation. Replace corroded spark plugs before using the pressure washer.

Always keep the spray nozzle open while the unit is running. Running the pressure washer with the nozzle closed can build up excessive pressure within the hose, potentially causing damage.

Never run the pressure washer without a sufficient amount of water. Inadequate water levels in your unit can lead to excessive pressure buildup.

After Using

Switch off the power and unplug the unit. Always prioritize this step to avoid injuries or damage.

Thoroughly clean the chemical/detergent intake with water, ensuring no residue or buildup is left behind. Clear water should be running out of the intake.

Wash dirt and grime from the inside of the pressure washer to prevent any irregular behavior during future use.

Drain all excess water from the unit before storing it. Leaving water inside can attract insects, encourage mold growth, and promote bacterial development.

Store your pressure washer in a location away from the elements, ensuring it remains well-ventilated and protected from the sun, rain, and snow. Keep it out of reach of children to avoid potential injuries.

Always adhere to the manufacturer’s instructions regarding the use and maintenance of your pressure washer to ensure your safety and that of others.
