Employee Spotlight: Finding the Route and Consistency with Mike Biery!
At Cardinal Home Center, delivering materials across Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley requires focus, skill, and a dedicated team behind the wheel. We’re proud to shine our spotlight on Mike Biery, a CDL Truck Driver who joined the Staunton team in 2023. Mike is one of the drivers who makes sure our quality products arrive safely and on time, often navigating the toughest city routes to get the job done.
A Day on the Road
For Mike, the best part of the job is the sheer act of driving and exploring new places while on the road. However, every driver faces challenges. Mike notes that his biggest hurdle is navigating city streets with tight turns. His strategy for success?
“I focus on staying consistent and following the same steps as usual, while picking up the pace when needed to ensure materials arrive safely and on time.”
What’s one thing most people don’t realize about the job? Mike says that being a driver can be mentally tiring. It’s a job that demands constant attention, route planning, and problem-solving. Through all of this, the most important thing he’s learned while working at Cardinal is the value of staying consistent. His go-to routine on long delivery routes is simple and critical: making sure the delivery tracking is accurate.
Mike’s favorite part of the job is working with his team — proof that even a solo job on the road is supported by a strong foundation back at the center.
Life Off the Pavement
When Mike isn’t delivering materials for Cardinal, he heads for the hills. His favorite hobbies outside of work are trail riding, overlanding, camping, and being outdoors.
In fact, he’s happiest when:
“I am on an off-road trail deep in the mountains, far from town or city.”
