Employee Spotlight: Ray Collier, Lumber Associate at Lake Anna
If there is one person who truly understands the value of a hard day’s work under the Virginia sky, it’s Ray Collier. As a Lumber Associate at our Lake Anna location, Ray brings a lifetime of hands-on experience to every order he pulls and every customer he assists.
At 47 years old, Ray has spent nearly his entire life, 40 years to be exact, working on a farm. That deep connection to the land and construction industry gives him a unique perspective when helping folks select the right materials for their own projects. Whether he’s at Cardinal or back on the farm, Ray is happiest when he’s staying busy and working outside.
A Foundation in Experience
Ray’s background in construction means he doesn’t just see a stack of boards. He sees the deck, the dock, or the home they will eventually become. With lumber sales growing at Lake Anna over the past year, Ray’s expertise has been a vital resource for the community.
“When a customer isn’t quite sure what they need, Ray knows exactly which questions to ask,” says the Lake Anna team. “He takes pride in making sure every person walks away with the right materials to get the job done right.”
Battling the Elements
In the lumber yard, Ray is the guardian of our inventory. His typical day is a whirlwind of keeping the yard neat, organized, and clean. He faces the daily challenges of the Lake Anna breeze and unpredictable weather. He works hard to keep materials covered and protected so they stay in top condition for customers.
Family, Farm, and Fun
While the work can be physically demanding, Ray finds joy in the camaraderie of his “work family” at Lake Anna. The team is known for laughing their way through the workday and finding a balance between focused productivity and genuine friendship.
When the workday ends, Ray heads back to his first love, the farm. No matter how busy things get, his favorite way to spend his free time is visiting with his grandson.
The Cardinal Way
Ray Collier embodies the spirit of Cardinal Home Center, hardworking, knowledgeable, and always ready to help a neighbor. Next time you’re at Lake Anna picking up supplies for a spring project, keep an eye out for Ray. He’ll be the one making sure your lumber is perfect, and your project is off to a great start.
