Dennis Moneymaker has become synonymous with paint expertise at Cardinal Home Center over the past 16 years. As our seasoned team member and manager at our Greenbrier Drive location in Charlottesville, he’s been instrumental in helping countless customers find the perfect shade to transform their homes. We sat down with Dennis to pick his brain on all things paint and learn more about what he enjoys.
Q: How long have you worked for Cardinal Home Center? I have proudly served Cardinal Home Center for 16 years, and it’s been quite the colorful journey.;)
Q: What is your role at Cardinal Home Center? I wear many hats here, but one of my favorites is being the go-to paint expert. Customers often ask me for advice on choosing the right paint color, and I’m always happy to help.
Q: Can you offer advice on how to choose a paint color? Absolutely! When it comes to selecting a paint color, lighting is key. Indoor and outdoor lighting can dramatically affect how a color looks. I recommend purchasing some samples to test on your walls before committing to gallons of paint.
Q: Should I always use a primer? Primer is only sometimes necessary, but it’s crucial in certain situations. When painting new wood or sheetrock or when covering up a stubborn stain, primer is your best friend.
Q: How much paint should I buy? The amount of paint you’ll need depends on what you’re painting. For an average-sized room, plan for 2 gallons for 2 coats on the walls. It’s always better to have a little extra than to run out mid-project!
Q: What’s the most popular paint color that customers ask for? Benjamin Moore‘s White Dove, Chantilly Lace, Revere Pewter, Swiss Coffee, and Decorators White are among the customer favorites. These timeless shades never go out of style.
Q: What is the most important thing you’ve learned working for Cardinal Home Center? Honesty goes a long way, not just in our business but in life. Building trust with customers is essential for success.
Q: How do you like to spend your free time? In my free time, you can find me hanging out with my family by the pool, tinkering in my home workshop, and listening to some good old country tunes.
Q: What about some of your projects outside of Cardinal Home Center? I have a passion for refinishing furniture and tables in my home workshop. It’s a rewarding hobby that allows me to get creative.
Q: What would people never guess you do in your role? In addition to managing the store, I also work the sales counter alongside my fantastic team. We’re a close-knit and knowledgeable bunch here at Cardinal Home Center.
Q: Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us. Jess, my wife, and I are excited to welcome our first grandbaby in February 2024. And guess what? It’s a boy!
Q: You’re happiest when? In simple terms, I’m happiest always. Whether helping customers find the perfect paint color or spending time with my family, I find joy in every moment.
