Employee Spotlight: Meet Shaam Wheeler! Assistant Store Manager

Hey everyone, meet Shaam Wheeler! He’s a family man through and through—that’s his top priority. His wife and kids? They’re his whole world, plain and simple.

Born and raised in Buena Vista, VA, Shaam is a Parry McClure High alum and spent some time at Marshall University. His journey in building materials kicked off in ’02 at Lowe’s in Lexington.

Shaam’s been leading teams and making sales happen for a while. He first joined the Cardinal family in October ’23. You might’ve seen him at our Crozet spot, working with Matt Racer. He made some excellent connections there that really stuck with him.

Shaam took a quick detour for a management gig at a door company. But guess what? He missed us! It turns out that good company vibes are very important to Shaam.

Now, he’s back with us as the Assistant Store Manager at our Crozet location, bringing his leadership experience and positive energy to the team every day. He’s seen it all in sales, management, and operations. This experience helps him ensure you get the best products at the right price with quality service.

Shaam starts his day with some inspiration. He loves coaching the team and making sure the material gets where it needs to be. Making someone’s day better? That’s his favorite part.

Figuring out what makes everyone tick? That’s been a big learning curve. But getting folks to rally together? That’s his superpower. He leads by doing and always puts you, the customer, first.

Shaam’s tip for newbies? “Be real about what you can deliver. Everyone’s on a tight schedule. Cardinal? We’re like a big family, and we’re stoked to have you.”

Outside of work, it’s all about family, fishing, sports, and Sunday jeep rides. And at the end of the day, making others happy is what it’s all about for Shaam.
