Employee Spotlight: Meet Emily, Color Expert at Cardinal Home Center
Here at Cardinal Home Center, we have a dedicated team of experts passionate about helping our customers with their home improvement needs. Today, we’d like to spotlight one of our team members, Emily Workman. Emily has been a valuable part of the Cardinal family for nine months now, and she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role as a Sales Associate at our Staunton branch. Emily’s journey with Cardinal Home Center began long before she officially joined our team. She worked alongside Lesley Merritt for 12 years at the Staunton location, formerly Augusta Paint and Decorating. Emily is thrilled to continue her career with the Cardinal family and looks forward to the exciting opportunities ahead.
Emily’s Role at Cardinal Home Center
As a Sales Associate in our Staunton branch, Emily plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations. Her primary focus is providing the best advice and service to every customer who walks through our doors. Emily is dedicated to helping customers find the perfect solutions for their home improvement projects.
Advice on Choosing Paint Colors
One of Emily’s specialties is assisting customers in choosing the perfect paint colors for their projects. When asked for her advice on selecting paint colors, Emily shared some valuable insights:
“First, I typically ask if the customer has some color inspiration, whether green, blue, gray, etc. If the customer is still looking for color direction, I encourage them to find something in the room that might tell us what color to go with, whether it be from fabric, a picture on the wall, tile, etc. If a neutral color is preferred, the safest bet is an off-white or a taupe/greige, a color that will be timeless, given the new color trends each year.

When asked about lessons learned, Emily shared, “I have learned that we are most definitely a team, looking to achieve the same goals, and are here to help one another in any way possible.” And in a light-hearted moment, Emily shared, “Lesley often refers to me as the ‘Stain Match Master.’ I do pride myself in figuring out how to tackle ‘the impossible’ and making it possible for a customer to achieve the look they want with paint.”
Emily’s Life Outside Cardinal Home Center
Outside of work, Emily and her husband have a custom auto restoration business called”Old School Customs,” which they started in 2021 in Staunton. Emily is a true enthusiast of concerts, festivals, truck pulls, golfing, fishing, and spending time near water, whether it’s a lake, creek, pool, or beach.
Surprising Fact About Emily
Emily is quite the golfer and enjoys a friendly competition. She humorously adds, “I don’t want to sound pretentious, but I’m pretty good at golf and enjoy whipping up on the boys when I can. :)”
Happiness is Family
Emily says, “I’m happiest when I’m with my family. I have a big, tight-knit family and am incredibly blessed to have them. All of my best memories include my family.”
