Selecting Paint Colors for Your Kitchen
Bring new life to your kitchen with a fresh coat of paint. Benjamin Moore offers an extraordinary selection of colors that match your style and budget. Here are a few essential points to consider when choosing the right colors for a kitchen painting project.
Popular kitchen colors and color combinations are continually evolving, but several colors hold throughout the years much better than others.
If your kitchen is a community space, choose welcoming and fresh colors. Like the color(s) you currently have in the space? Consider changing the shade of the color(s) to alter or gently improve upon what you have.
If you want to veer from the colors you have, consider what you don’t like about the existing color(s). Do they not complement the other components of the room? Is it too dark or too bright? Do the colors seem dated? Would you like more or less contrast between specific colors, i.e., walls to cabinets?
If you will be painting the cabinets, this is an opportunity to bring any number of styles to your project. Blues, grays, reds, and even yellow and greens are popular and bring tremendous energy to the kitchen space. A warm red to cabinets or walls is a fun way to transform the energy and attitude of the room.
White kitchens offer a clean and energized space. Using white for walls, cabinets, or both allows the area to open up with brightness, which is also a plus when cooking and entertaining.
Mid-gray kitchens are trendy and, with the right tones, can bring sophisticated and welcoming energy to the space. Paired with dark hardware, the contrasts evolve and allow for the use of blues, gold, and other pop colors to bring your individualized style and personality.
Don’t overlook the opportunity to bring even more character to the kitchen space by identifying your perfect colors for window trim, baseboards, crown molding, and even the ceiling. Be cautious about adding too much complexity to the space. You need to ensure there is a central primary color with 1 or 2 complimentary colors to bring the palette together.
Like many things, a good plan results in a good outcome. We often suggest creating an electronic and physical folder, clipping images from magazines, and copying and pasting from websites and blogs. Find colors and color combinations in these publications that appeal to you. Companies use some of the finest designers to create spaces that complement the products they sell; use their efforts to your advantage.
Another great resource to explore ideas and paint color combinations is Benjamin Moore’s website. They offer an exceptional variety of content and tools to identify shades, families of colors, and complimentary colors to bring the exact style you want to your new kitchen. Benjamin Moore also offers a downloadable APP where you can create a virtual outcome of your space to aid in color selection.
Once you have your folders filled with prime examples, take a trip to one of Cardinal Home Center’s 3 locations and discuss your future kitchen with one of our Benjamin Moore Paint experts. They will guide you through the color swatches that match your choices. When you narrow down these choices, you can go home with sample paints and put them on your walls and cabinets to see how they feel in the space.
Also, did you know we recently recorded a podcast episode about selecting the right color for your space? We talked with Michael Freeman about some of his recommendations – you can listen to that episode here.
