Prep for the Big Game with a TV Frame
Part 1: Box Frame Around TV
Start by measuring the depth of your TV on all sides and the width and length of the TV frame itself. Measure twice to ensure your final product does not block any view of the TV. Then, you will want to measure and cut your wood. For this type of project, spruce or fir is typically recommended. You can use 1” material. Cut all of your wood to size, and assemble the box frame so the TV will sit inside it. Use wood glue to put the pieces together, ensuring corners are at a 90-degree angle – you may want to use some popsicle sticks and hot glue to hold the pieces in place while you attach them. Once dry, peel off the sticks and hot glue for a straight box.
Part 2: Flat Frame In Front of TV
Depending on the style of your TV, you will want to adjust how you put together this frame in front of your TV. If you have even amounts of black plastic around each side, you can use wood with the same widths. However, if the tops and bottoms are different sizes, you want to make sure your mat is even widths, and the wood frame will offset the difference so it looks uniform on the front. After you determine sizes, glue your pieces to the front and nail them in – brad nails will do for this project.
Part 3: Add Materials for Front
While waiting for the frame to set, you can move forward with preparing for installation. Use felt pads to add cushion between your TV frame and the wood, placing a few strips around your TV.
Decorating Your Frame
Once everything is dry, and in place, it’s time to decorate your frame. Some may want to keep the natural look of wood – in this case, a clear protective coat may be all that is necessary. If you’re going to paint it a color or add some character, use any Benjamin Moore’s interior paints. You may also choose to include some trim pieces to add decoration. You may also choose to use some of our cord management products to hide any cords from view.
This frame will make a great focal point for your living room. With this quick project, your TV will be the highlight of any March Madness game this year!
